Building maintenance can mean a few things. But the main thing it means is of course maintaining a building. Now that can mean taking care of the electric and water to make sure everything is where it needs to be and the like, or it can mean that you are in charge of ensuring that a building is not only up to living standards but above them. That can include cleaning the building, making sure all the wiring and piping is proper, and making sure that the roof and the outside of the building is free of holes, and other opens or dangers.
If you don’t mind working to keep things in tip top shape then working in building maintenance could just be for you. Be prepared for a lot of physical labor though, and knowledge in electric wiring and the like. Being able to clean is a bonus of course too, because you may just find yourself sweeping, mopping and dusting quite often.
Another thing about building maintenance is that you must be able to be on your feet for almost the entire time you have to work, and if you’re someone who can’t stand for long periods of time, then you may want to find another field to work in.
But even in building maintenance you need someone working behind a desk. There are people who take calls and input data just like any other business out there. So if you’re not into a lot of heavy labor, but still want to be part of the building maintenance world, then you can of course look into getting an office job based around building maintenance.
Like with any job there are a lot of sides to building maintenance, and you want to be sure to research and look into every last aspect of it, if you’re interested in getting a job in the field. You should try to find one that not only best fits your capabilities but also best fits your physical abilities. And again, just like with any job, you want to make sure you have all the proper training and are absolutely ready to work before you go out and apply for any type of building maintenance job. Going under prepared could lead to not being hired, or worse being hired and then getting someone hurt because you did not know what to do. So again, make sure you are prepared for the leap into building maintenance, if you think you’ve found your dream job.
