Festo is the inventor of the valve terminal and an expert in the valves. There are all sorts of valves, from individual simple valves to automated valves. Festo valves are the right valves for a specific purpose. These valves are delivered world wide with top quality and comprehensive support of engineering. The valve functions are mainly to control the direction of flow and air quantity. Valves are classified into various types include the actuation types, control types, function types etc.
Actuation Type Festo Valves
Electrical actuated valves are the most common. It works based on the actuation of a solenoid to make a valve switch. These are commonly referred as the solenoid valves. Pneumatically actuated valves work based on compressed air. There is no electrical connection required for this valve to work. Mechanical actuated valves are safety oriented and work on actuating directly with a moving object. Normally a pneumatic cylinder actuates this valve. Most of the errors are eliminated in the mechanical valves. The number of interfaces is also reduced considerably in this valve. Manually operated valves are similar to mechanical valves in the design. The difference is that rollers are present in the place of levers. A hand lever or a switch or a knob is present in these valves to operate manually.
Control type Festo valves
Directly actuated valves are used for control purposes. A valve movement is essential for the seal to be moved. Festo valves piston has several seals. The piston movement directs the air across the channels. The movement is triggered by the actuating element directly. The operating pressure has no role in valve switching function. The directly actuated valves are suitable for vacuum applications. The force required to move the valve piston depends on the valve size. Mostly solenoids are used in actuating these valves.
On the contrary, there are the indirectly actuated valves that use a lever or switch to operate. These valves are commonly referred as the pilot actuated valves. In these valves, air plays the vital role and acts as the medium for creating the actual movement of the piston. The major application of these valves is in the operation of a large valve or switching a large valve. It is primarily done to save power by switching a large valve using a small valve operated by a lever. It works on pressure basis.
Function type Festo valves
Directional control valves are the most common form in the type of 2/2-way valves and 3/2 valves. The 2/2 valves is used to open or block a flow. Close the slide of the valve and water is blocked and on opening the slide, the water flows. The operation is simple. The 3/2 valves are used as joints with air flowing from 1 to 2 and air escapes in port 3. The cylinder expands when the air flows from 1 to 2 and retracts when air flows from 2 to 3. Similar to this there are 4/2 way valves, 5/3 way valves and 5/2 way valves.
Another type of Festo valves includes the flow control valves, shut-off valves, pressure regulators, proportional valves, logic valves, etc.
